TOUCH 106.1 FM Salutes an Industry Favorite - Rehema Ellis, Boston Neighborhood Network's Celebrating Silver 25 Years of Media Access
and Excellence Awards Recipient
Rehema Ellis joined NBC News as a general assignment correspondent in 1994. Based in New York, Ellis reports on a variety of issues of national importance. she was part of NBC's special coverage of the historic election of Barack Obama, filing reports from the steps of the Capitol during the inauguration of the nation's first African-American president.
On September 11, 2001 Ellis was among the first reporters at ground zero. For days, weeks and months after 9/11, Ellis stayed on the story reporting on the recovery efforts and the turmoil for the victims' families. Her work was recognized as part of a special Emmy presented to NBC News.
Ellis has anchored The Nightly News with Brian Williams, Today, NBC News at Sunrise, and America's Talking In-Depth on MSNBC.
Prior to joining NBC, Ellis worked at WHDH-TV in Boston, where she anchored the station's weekend newscast, as well as the station's weekly public affairs broadcast, Urban Update.
Ellis also served as a political reporter while at WHDH, covering the 1988 presidential campaign. Prior to that, Ellis was a general assignment reporter at WHDH from 1985 to 1988.
Ellis began her broadcast career at WJIB radio in Boston.
Ellis has received numerous awards for her reporting, including an Emmy, Edward R. Murrow Awards, Sigma Delta Chi awards, Matrix, Associated Press, and several National Association of Black Journalists (NANJ) awards. She has also been recognized as one of Boston's Outstanding Black Achievers.
She grew up in Boston and is a graduate of the Boston Public Schools. Ellis received a B.A. from Simmons College in Boston as well as an Honorary Doctorate in Journalism from her alma mater. She has an M.A. degree from Columbia Graduate School of Journalism in New York.
Currently, Ellis lives in New York with her young son.
