American Idol Shake-up: Jennifer Lopez & Steven Tyler Quit, Mariah Carey To Replace Randy Jackson?
Jennifer Lopez announced Friday her departure from American Idol just a day after Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler revealed his plan to exit the show.
After a two-year run, Lopez reportedly called host Ryan Seacrest, saying, “I honestly feel like the time has come that I have to get back to doing the other things that I do. [...] We had an amazing run.”

With news of Lopez and Tyler leaving the show, rumors are also swirling that Randy Jackson will being stepping away from the judging table and replaced by Mariah Carey. PEOPLE.com reports that the 42-year-old Grammy winner is “in serious talks” with the show.
Although Idol has been television’s most popular program for nearly a decade, ratings took a huge hit last season and producers are looking for new ways to revive the show.
